Why You’d Want To Live Here

It’s a lovely summer’s day and I can almost see a skyline through a thickening shroud of egos…You can’t swim in a town this shallow because you will most assuredly drown tomorrow.

- Death Cab For Cutie, “Why You’d Want to Live Here”

Done, saw, eaten:
& . Stay at the The Beverly Wilshire Hotel: because the beds are super-unbelievably-awesomely comfy.
& . Did you see that malt with sprinkles? Yeah, it’s the Birthday Cake Malt from The Counter. [Happy Birthday, Schober. I hope this coming year is as delicious as that malt!]
& . Played skee ball at the arcade at Santa Monica Pier and be-bopped around at the Original Muscle Beach.
& . Stood in line for 45 minutes at Pink’s Hot Dogs for the spiciest polish dog ever eaten. (I should have gotten the mild!)
& . There’s a beautiful courtyard that is perfect for eating outside on these clear LA winter evenings lit with warm little white lights and those trusty heat lamps at Spago. Oh, and 2 Michelin stars. :)
& . Visit the Farmer’s Market then hop, skip, and jump over to The Grove for some shopping.
& . You can see clear to the ocean from the Griffith Observatory and all the lights from the vastness of the city not too far below.
& . Wait in rainbow colored line of plaid shirts for coffee at Intelligentsia in Silverlake, hipster central.
& . Go to Urth Caffe to run into your favorite cast members of The Hills.
& . And the cherry on top, the egg in the omelette, the frosting on the cupcake…get some cupcakes from Sprinkles to see what you’ve been missing all your life.

. . . . . . . . .

Miscellaneous (and not LA related), but notable:
& . Seven Rules to Understanding Design and Designers. Rule #1: Designers are meant to be loved not to be understood.
& . Look at these lovely things from the Rifle Paper Co.!!
& . Extreme awesome and weirdness. The Taylor Glacier “Blood Falls” in Antarctica.
